Description: Mekelesha also known as Wot Kimem (which literally translates as 'Stew Spice') is a blend of seven essential Ethiopian spices that is added to Ethiopian stews (Wot) as a ‘finishing’ spice to round out the flavors and add additional  depth, dimension, and a ‘pop’ of aroma and flavor without additional spicy heat. Tasmanian Spice Traders' truly authentic Mekelesha (Wot Kimem) will ignite your taste buds, add incredible, appetizing aroma, and bring true authenticity to your Ethiopian cuisine. If you have made Ethiopian wot in the past and not added Mekelesha right before serving, then you definitely have been missing out on the true experience of enjoying Ethiopian wot!

Mekelesha (Wot Kimem) should never have salt as part of its blend and Tasmanian Spice Traders holds to this convention with it's proprietary blend. This blend is truly authentic and is perfect for those requiring a limited salt intake and giving everyone the flexibility to season their meals to their own preferences.

Ingredients

Black Pepper, Ethiopian Cardamom (Korarima), Ethiopian Long Pepper (Timiz), Cumin, Cinnamon (Cassia), Nutmeg, Cloves

Use With

Beef, Lamb, Chicken, Pork, Fish, Seafood, Legumes, and Vegetables

Suggested Uses

Mekelesha and Berbere go hand in hand; anywhere you use Berbere, Mekelesha is the perfect traditional finishing touch! Use to finish and wake up the flavors and aromas of authentic Ethiopian stews including Doro Wot, Sega Wot, Key Wot, Misser Wot, and many more...

  • Add a bit of Mekelesha to sauces, soups, stews, or chili as part of the cooking process or right at the end for an aromatic,  flavorful, 'exotic' boost
  • Sprinkle Mekelesha over cooked rice, couscous, popcorn, french fries, corn-on-the-cob, hummus, or even mac & cheese for a touch of Ethiopian flavor
  • Be adventurous but, use it sparingly, a little goes a long way!
