Rasam Podi
Rasam Podi
Description: A traditional South Indian blend of roasted, ground lentils, herbs, and spices that adds a zesty and aromatic boost to any dish it is added to. Traditionally used to add flavor and as a thickener for the wide variety of Rasam dishes (also known as Saaru or Chaaru) which are humble, tangy, tomato, tamarind, or kokum based, soup-like dishes made with or without meat, fish, vegetables, and even fruit. Tasmanian Spice Traders' Rasam Podi will add depths of flavor, a warming touch of earthiness, and true authenticity to Rasam and other nontraditional soups and stews. No matter how you use it, it is sure to warm your palate and heal what ails you!
And, just in case you are wondering, 'Rasam' translates as 'Juice' referring to the tomato, tamarind, or kokum juice that is the base of rasam dishes, while 'Podi' is simply the Telugu word for 'Dry' or 'Powder' so, 'Rasam Podi' literally translates as 'Juice Powder'.
Rasam Podi should never contain salt allowing the cook to season rasam (and other dishes) to their taste. Tasmanian Spice Traders' proprietary Rasam Podi follows this convention making it perfect for those requiring a limited salt intake and allowing everyone the flexibility to season their meals to their own preferences.
